The Platinum Age of comic books is considered to run from 1887 - 1938. As comic books originally published reprints of newspaper strips, newspaper cartoonists of this era are usually considered part of the Platinum Age, even if their works were never reprinted in comic book form. The age is often judged to have started from the publication of Palmer Cox's The Brownies: Their Book in 1887 until the appearance of Superman in Action Comics #1 in 1938 - at which point the Golden Age of Comics commences.
