Joye Hummel Murchison Kelly (born April 4, 1924) was the first woman to write Wonder Woman comics.
Life & Career[]
Hummel was born in New York to Nathan and Mavis Meyer.[1] Her parents divorced by the time she was 6 years old, and her mother later remarried a Quentin Hummel, and Joye adopted his surname as well.
In 1944, she was a student of Wonder Woman creator William Moulton Marston's at the Katherine Gibbs School in Manhattan. As Marston's assistant from 1944 to 1947, she scripted many Wonder Woman stories during that time, all of which were published under Marston's "Charles Moulton" pseudonym.[2]
In May 2014, she donated her papers relating to her work on Wonder Woman to the Dibner Library of the Smithsonian Institution.[3]
At the 2018 Eisner Awards, she was awarded the Bill Finger Award for overlooked excellence in comics writing.
