Maureen Vera Spurgeon, née Newman, born in Islington, London, on 20 November 1941, was a journalist, a teacher and a writer of children's books and comics. She worked in British girls' comics in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, writing for DC Thomson's Bunty and "No Tears for Molly" for IPC's Tammy, among others. She died of cancer on 30 October 2007.
