Margaret Theresa Wilkinson was born c. 1872 in Ambleside, Westmorland, north-west England, the daughter of an organ builder. By 1901 she was working as a black and white artist and living in Barnes, London, with her brother Tom, also a comics artist, and sister Elizabeth, a music teacher. She drew for the early British comic The Jester in 1903. In 1911 she was still working as a black and white artist, and living alone in Paddington, London.
